Those members prayed, sang songs ofpraise, andlisten intently to the word preached by their belovedpastor.On Wednesday, January 12, 2000 Elder LaVaughn Hughes, Sr.,wasintroduced to the congregation of Tabernacle of Praise by BishopL.N. Forbes, Presiding Bishop of the Original Free WillBaptistChurches of America, Middle Eastern District. Also BishopForbesappointed Elder Hughes as the new pastor on January 12,2000.Unanimously, a vote of acceptance from the leadershipandcongregation was conferred. Pastor Hughes began his duties asthenew pastor of T.O.P. on Sunday, January 15, 2000.In January 2000, there were approximately fifteen activemembers.Under the leadership of Pastor Hughes, Tabernacle ofPraisecontinually grew and expanded its congregation. Thisopportunity,afforded Pastor Hughes to launch into full-timeministry in April2004. After nine years of service with theTabernacle of Praise,Bishop Hughes was appointed Pastor of FaithTemple No. 2 OriginalFree Will Baptist Church, following theretirement of foundingbishop, Bishop L.N. Empowerment Ministries Christian Centerwasfounded by Pastor Gregg S. Magee, Sr. in January of 2007.Duringthat time Bible study was held at Mt. Pleasant UnitedMethodistChurch on Friday nights at 7:00 p.m. On June 10, 2007,Pastor Mageechanged his service times to Sunday at 11:00 a.m. atBayou ViewApartments Recreation Center. On January 27, 2008 PastorMageebegan having service at the Teen Extreme Center indowntownGulfport at 9:30 a.m. As the ministry began to grow and thehungerfor God’s Word became great Pastor Magee added a ThursdaynightBible study on June 5, 2008. On August 19, 2009, we purchasedourfirst building, located at 1700 30th Avenue, Gulfport, MS.In the last 6 years Pastor Magee has diligently sought thevoiceof God to make a difference on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.Theministry partnered with the Gulfport School District andsponsoredthe after school tutorial program for three years. Duringthesummer the ministry is a part of a government program tofeedchildren where we provide roughly 1,200 meals each summer. Wehaveparticipated in this for two years. Within the first six monthsinthe building we joined with Bay Area Food Bank to help providefoodfor families in need. This is an ongoing ministry thatcontinues togrow and impact the lives of many. We are known for ourservice andpassion for young people. We have had an ongoing biblestudy inboth middle and high schools in the community.Pastor Magee has hosted several seminars onparenting,singleness, marriage, health and wellness, FinancialPeaceUniversity, sexual addictions, home buyers seminars, and somuchmore.He believes that God wants us to be blessed and have a balanceinall areas of our lives - spiritually, emotionally,educationally,physically, and yes, even financially.
